One of the best things about being a food blogger are the little perks.  Every now and then, I receive free items from food companies looking to share their ingredients with the world through new recipes and giveaways.Today, Clearly Delicious Readers, I’d like you to receive a little perk too (see below for how you can win these yummy ingredients!).

Stonehouse 27 was founded several years ago when the owner, Sharon, wanted to bring Indian cuisines into our homes without the preservatives.  Do you hear me? NO PRESERVATIVES.  When you use one of their products (i.e., the Tamarind & Dates Sauce listed in this recipe or others with Honey & Cilantro), your ingredients are as follows: tamarind, dates, etc.  Not a single word you can’t pronounce, no artificial colors.  Ingredients are All Natural, Low-Sodium, and Gluten-Free.

Part of the health benefits originate from how the sauces are prepared.  Stonehouse 27 uses “low-glycemic agave nectar instead of refined sugars, contain only canola oil (the cooking oil lowest in saturated fat), and have no added salt.”  Enough said.  They’re healthy AND Clearly Delicious.

Stonehouse 27 coupled with Lundberg Family Farms to bring a rice bowl to their lovely sauces.  Together, brown rice and rich aromatic Indian sauces make the foundation for any great Indian meal.  Lundberg rice bowls can be found at the Baton Rouge Whole Foods and Our Daily Bread.  OR, don’t leave your couch and order online here and here.

So, to receive your own free sauce and rice bowl, here are the RULES:

1.) Go to Facebook and “Like” Stonehouse 27 and Lundberg Family Farms by clicking here and here

2.) Comment on this post with your e-mail address (so I can notify you if you won) AND the ingredients you would add to make a “Killer Combo”; here, I used a combination of juicy pork, sweet dates, and spicy dried chilies from Marx Foods.  List your favorites!

AND Voila! Finis! Finito! You’re entered.  I’ll announce the 5 winners next week and get your mailing addresses from you so  you can get cooking.  Until then, feast your eyes on one of the many Indian-inspired possibilities–a recipe for juicy Pork served with Tamarind, Dates, & Rice.

Pork with Tamarind, Dates, & Rice

I was really inspired by the all-natural ingredients in the Stonehouse 27 Sauce when preparing this recipe.  So, I thought I’d keep it simple–add whole dates to the sauce with a teaspoon of spicy peppers, and juicy pork.  Clearly Delicious take on Indian fare.

Ingredients:

* 1 jar Stonehouse 27 Sauce, “Tamarind & Date”

* 1 bowl Lundberg Family Farms Brown Rice

* 1 lb Pork, cubed & seasoned with salt and pepper

* 1 cup Dates

* 1-2 teaspoons dried chili powder

1.) Open flap of rice bowl and microwave for 60-90 seconds depending on wattage.  No need to add water!  When rice is done, add to a small pot with several tablespoons water and allow to warm and cook on low heat while you’re preparing the sauce by stirring regularly so it doesn’t stick to your pan.  You may need to turn off heat after 1-2 minutes of warming.

2.) Meanwhile, add pork and chili powder to a non-stick skillet that’s been lightly greased (either with canola oil or cooking spray).  Cook meat until brown (about three to five minutes).

3.) Right when meat is done, pour Tamarind & Date Sauce over meat, mix, and simmer for another couple of minutes.

4.) Serve Pork with Tamarind and Dates over bed of Lundberg Family Farms Rice.  Dress in Dates and chilies.

Enjoy! Makes 4 servings.

    I started thinking this might really be good with chicken and found this recipe: http://lisaiscooking.blogspot.com/2010/06/tamarind-chicken.html.

    I have some jalapenos growing in my yard, so that might make an interesting combo — I can’t wait to try it!
