Sometimes the best h’ordeurves and desserts are the most undemanding and the freshest. Many foodies get caught up in the cooking process of fancy gadgets, fancy ingredients, and tons of effort. I, however, am a big fan of minimalism. Merely chop some crisp, fresh produce, dress it with basic pantry ingredients, and voila! An effortless, clearly delicious h’ordeurve or dessert.
It should be no surprise then that during John’s birthday dinner Saturday I jumped on the opportunity to try and photograph this delicious Asian Pear h’ordeurve with Gorgonzola, Walnuts, and Honey. Equally unsurprising? This dish was another Michael Agan recipe.
Michael has the best sense of what is good when it comes to cooking. He knows how to combine flavors, cut prices, and create impressive presentations that dazzle any appetite. His idea for this recipe combines fall pears with your typically cheesy appetizer, but brings it to a whole other level with the combination of walnuts and honey. This flavorful, healthy, Asian Pear combination gets its tastiness from the honey and cheese, while the pear and walnut add a satisfying fall crunch to the dish.
Asian Pears w/Gorgonzola, Walnuts, & Honey
This recipe comes from the vast culinary repertoire that is Michael Agan’s brain. Michael prefers red pears (Asian ones) to green, and suggests Gorgonzola, Walnuts, and Honey. But, like any versatile h’ordeurve or dessert, this recipe can be adjusted to pecans, and another syrup, or blue cheese, or even a vegan-friendly cheese.
Ingredients:
* 4-6 Red Asian Pears
* 1/4 cup honey
* 1/4 cup Gorgonzola Cheese, crumbled
* 1/4 cup Walnuts, whole, or chopped
1.) Wash pears and remove stems. Using a pairing knife, cut each pear into small, length-wise, bite-size pieces and plate.
2.) Drizzle pears with honey, and add crumbled gorgonzola and walnuts. Enjoy! Makes 4-6 servings.
